As a new day dawns and the rising sun lights its path, the long-awaited Beijing Olympic Flame is landing in Pyongyang, the capital of the DPRK and a friendly neighbor of China. Among the 21 overseas cities participating in the Beijing Olympic Torch Relay, Pyongyang is the closest to Beijing. Linked by mountains and rivers, the peoples of our two nations share similar historical experiences, cultural traditions and affectionate feelings towards each other.
The great China-DPRK friendship was established and nurtured by the founding leaders of the two countries and has been growing even stronger as time goes by. In the new century, under the guidance of General Secretary Hu Jintao and General Secretary Kim Jong-il, and with the joint efforts of the two countries, a friendly and cooperative relationship has been progressing and deepening with each passing day.
The Olympic Flame is shining with even greater brightness and passion after the wind and rain have come and gone. The Flame brings to the people of the DPRK the heartfelt friendship of the Chinese people, the beautiful blessings of friends all over the world, and the universal ideals of peace, unity and harmony inherent in the modern Olympic Movement.
The world has given us a beautiful day in which to share with the world the China-DPRK friendship and the glory of the Olympic Games. Let us give our blessings to Beijing and Pyongyang, and join hands in holding high the Lucky Clouds Torch to light the Olympic Flame and to kindle human passion for happiness and harmony, to convey the noble dream of peace, friendship and progress, to spread the Olympic spirit around the continents, and make this world a better place.
