PYONGYANG, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Kim Jong-il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), inspected some industrial and farm facilities in North Phyongan Province, the leading official newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported on Friday.

The newspaper declined to say when Kim started the inspection.

Kim, accompanied by several leading officials of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea, was briefed on the operation of the Pukjung Machine Complex before visiting the Rakwon Machine Complex and a cooperative farm.

"He stressed that in order to increase the production of modern machines...the complex should continue to focus its efforts on the technological update to modernize the production process," said the report.

Kim's last public appearance was on June 2 when he visited industrial facilities in Kanggye, the capital city of Jagang Province.
