On July 25, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) during a series of Foreign Ministers' meetings on East Asian cooperation in Vientiane, Laos.

  Wang Yi stated that China and the DPRK are close neighbors with traditional friendship. China has always attached importance to developing friendly cooperation with the DPRK and is willing to work with the DPRK to strengthen communication, expand consensus, properly handle differences and advance cooperation. China adheres to achieving denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and maintaining peace and stability on the peninsula. China also sticks to solving problems through dialogue and consultation. This basic policy will remain unchanged.

  Ri Yong Ho said that DPRK-China friendship was personally forged and nurtured by older generations of leaders of the two countries. The DPRK is willing to work with China to strengthen contacts and exchanges, and jointly devote themselves to continuously consolidating and developing DPRK-China friendly cooperation according to the requirements of the new era, so as to constantly enrich the connotation of bilateral relations. The DPRK is willing to maintain communication with China on the Korean Peninsula situation.
