Ambassador Liu Xiaoming Met with DPRK Military Leaders

On September 27th, 2006, Liu Xiaoming, the new Chinese Ambassador to the DPRK, met with Vice Marshal Kim Yong Chun, member of the DPRK Defense Commission and Chief of the General Staff of the DPRK People's Army and Vice Marshal Kim Il Chol, Minister of the People's Armed Forces. Kim Yong Chun and Kim Il Chol warmly welcomed Liu's assumption of the post. And both sides had talks in an intimate and friendly atmosphere.

Kim Yong Chun said that DPRK and China were two friendly neighbors geographically linked. The DPRK and Chinese armies had fought shoulder to shoulder against external enemies. The late Chairman Kim Il Sung and the late Chairman Mao Zedong and other revolutionaries of the old generation had personally forged the traditional friendship, and this friendship was evolving to a new high under the guidance of comrade Kim Jong Il and comrade Hu Jintao and other leaders of the new generation. The DPRK People's Army had contributed a great deal to push forward the relations between the two armies, and would continue doing so in the future so as to play an even greater role. He also expressed his thanks to the Chinese Party and Government for the great amount of relief materials when DPRK suffered serious flood.

Ambassador Liu said that the founding leaders of PRC and DPRK had forged and nurtured the profound China-DPRK friendship, which had not only withstood the test of history, but also remained strong as ever in the new era. The relations between Chinese and DPRK militaries are an essential component of this relationship. The Chinese side attached great importance to these relations and would make efforts for their continued development.
