Ambassador Liu Met with DPRK Premier Pak Bong Ju

On September 19th, 2006, Liu Xiaoming, the new Chinese Ambassador to DPRK, met with the premier of the DPRK Cabinet Pak Pong Ju at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang. Premier Pak extended his welcome to Ambassador Liu for his appointment. Both sides had a cordial and friendly conversation.

Premier Pak stated that the DPRK and Chinese side had always supported each other, and enjoyed good cooperation in economic and trade relations. And now these relations had developed favorably. He said there was great potential in such cooperation; therefore, both sides should select only those promising projects in future so as to spur the further development of the bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

Premier Pak added he had visited China on a number of occasions and bore witness to the tremendous success achieved by China in economic construction and raising of the people's living standard. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, the Chinese people would certainly score even greater success in pushing forward the sustainable economic development, implementation of the eleventh Five-Year Plan. Furthermore, Pak expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese government for the humanitarian relief effort given during the recent flood in DPRK.

Ambassador Liu said it was an unswerving policy of the Chinese party and government to develop the China-DPRK relations of friendly cooperation. Recent years had witnessed the gratifying development of the bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Such cooperation had broad and favorable prospect. Both sides enjoyed the good cooperation conditions in investment, cross-border trade, tourism and tapping of mineral resources. He emphasized that the Chinese side would work together with the DPRK side in order to enforce the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, continue encouraging and supporting the Chinese enterprises to unfold various types of mutually beneficial cooperation with DPRK in order to advance the bilateral economic and trade relations.

Kwan Pon Gi and Ro Tu Chol vice premiers of the cabinet and Rim Kyong Man, Minister of Foreign Trade and Guan Huabing, minister counselor of the Chinese embassy and others were present at the meeting. On the same day, Choe Thae Bok and Kim Ki Nam, secretaries of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of DPRK also met with Ambassador Liu in Pyongyang.
